Pastor's E-Devotional

Many of you know that I read quite a bit. Among the mysteries, adventure stories, and best sellers, I try to read a couple of books for devotional purposes. Let me recommend a couple of series that are both instructional and inspirational. The first you have heard me mention more than once: Matthew (Mark, Luke, etc.) for Everyone by N. T. Wright. Wright is a church leader and top flight scholar. So this series is helpful for me for preaching but also I read them devotionally every day.
The second (verse same as the first) is Genesis (Exodus, Leviticus etc.) for Everyone. The author is John Goldingay who is an English seminary professor at Fuller Theological Seminary in California. Like Wright, Dr. Goldingay has exposition on the texts tied with illustrations or introductions which tie them to our day. I am currently reading 1 and 2 Kings for Everyone. This may not be the most scintillating reading in the Bible but Dr. Goldingay makes it interesting.
Two other books I would recommend are: Final Words from the Cross by Adam Hamilton and 10 Gospel Promises for Later Life by Jane Mare Thibault. The former will be our study on Wednesday evenings in Lent and the later will be the book we use for our Lenten Prayer Retreat which will be lead by David Hilton on March 9 – 10.
Here’s to reading and being enriched by the Word.

Blessings,
Wayne
