Worship Services

Three worship services are offered at First UMC each Sunday, each meeting different needs, but united by the Spirit of God.  On the first Sunday of each month there is a jazz worship service also.

8:30 Traditional Service
The early service attracts a diverse group of folks.  Hymns are accompanied by the pipe organ.  Occasionally a soloist or ensemble provides additional music.  The pastor preaches.  Communion is served each first Sunday of the month.

Good News at Nine

Good News at Nine is a contemporary service that meets in the upstairs of the Wesley Center (between the Todd House and Sanctuary).  David Goins heads a team of musicians (keyboard, guitars, percussion, etc.) and vocalists who lead and direct worship in song.  The senior pastor, Wayne Sayre, preaches at this service.   Good News at Nine worship includes lots of visuals, videos, dramas, and celebrates communion once a month.  Casual dress is encouraged at this service.  Click on the blog below for an audio of GNN services  http://gnnfumc.blogspot.com/.

11:00 Traditional Service
This service meets in sanctuary.  There have been continuous services here since it was built in 1858.  Music is led from the pipe organ and occasional orchestral instruments.  The outstanding Chancel Choir sings weekly.  They are assisted by soloists and ensembles.    The senior pastor, Wayne Sayre, preaches and is assisted with other liturgy by the staff.  Communion is offered at least six times a year at this service.  A weekly delayed broadcast is shown on Channel 20 in Frankfort at 1 pm on Sundays.

First at First: an evening with the arts

On the first Sunday evening of each month at 5:00 p.m. Gallery Hall is opened for an art exhibition.  At 5:45 a light supper is served in Asbury Hall.  At 6:00 p.m. there is a Jazz Worship Service featuring The Dave Shelton Jazz Trio.  A guest musician is often included.  Wayne Sayre delivers the message in a casual setting.
