Congregational Care
John 13:34-35 -- I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.
Believing that Jesus Christ has called us into Community with other believers and that he has charged us with demonstrating our love for him by loving and serving others, the members of First United Methodist Church are committed to a vital Congregational Care ministry. Through its teams and programs, we provide support for our members and their families by running errands during times of illness or stress, providing meals and medical transportation, and making minor home repairs. Volunteers visit regularly with our people in hospitals and nursing homes, and several people send cards to those who are celebrating special occasions and to those who are shut in and unable to attend church functions. In addition, we have a cadre of trained Stephen Ministers who come alongside people who are going through difficult times, and we have two Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors on staff.
As the family of God, we believe that congregational care is not limited to an individual or organized group but that everyone in the church has the responsibility and the privilege of caring and demonstrating concern for each other. The Congregational Care Ministries of FUMC are continually evolving as we seek to be ever more sensitive and responsive to the needs of our church members.
