Honduras Mission Trip

’09 MEDICAL MISSION TO HONDURAS

This year our church sent three teams to Honduras, a construction team a dental mission team, and a medical team.

Our church has been going to Fuerzas Unidas since 2001 and the health of the people has been improving according to the doctors that have been going each year. Dr. Ana Lamon has opened a church clinic on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Our church supports the clinic by providing funds to purchase the medicine for the pharmacy. Without medicine being included in the fee for the visit with the doctor, the people could not afford health care. The cost for visiting the doctor is around 75 cents in our money. Our church also supports a day care at the Fuerzas Unidas church for working moms. The jobs usually pay one or two dollars per day and they must pay bus fare out of that, so you can see that our support for the day care is very important. Presently there are 15 children under 6 years old in the day care. This also creates jobs. If you want to learn more about what you can do to support the day care or pharmacy, talk with Dr. Arba Kenner, Dr. Roger Strunk, Dr. John Paul Broderson or Jim Burris.

Recently our church funded a water system to provide purified water to a school of 800 children next door to the Fuerzas Undias UMC. The cost of the water for the next 6 months is around $300, so your financial support is needed for this also. Our 2007 medical mission team provided funds for the piping system and water storage tanks. The 2006 mission team provided the water purification unit which also provides purified water to the church, the day care and the medical clinc.
